    The Institute's monthly staff newsletter features news of recent activities, accomplishments, and resources. This month's first feature story is about testing an artificial intelligence robot to address the shortage of support workers and fight loneliness among older people and those with disabilities. The second story is about the upcoming Reinventing Quality conference that ICI co-presents. The third story argues that Minnesota should end the longstanding practice of paying less than the minimum wage to workers with disabilities. This month's alumni update is about Bruktawit Zewdie (MNLEND 2022-23), who is helping the TeleOutreach Center learn more about the experiences of families of children on the autism spectrum who have been waitlisted for evaluation or intervention.

This month's first feature story is about ICI's collaboration with the Minnesota Office of Higher Education, which is offering competitive grants to eligible Minnesota higher education institutions that provide meaningful credentials upon graduation to students with intellectual disability. The second story is about ICI's Direct Support Workforce Solutions group, which is working with stakeholders in several states to recruit and retain direct support professionals. The third story is about a new project that will use teleoutreach to improve outcomes for children and adolescents with developmental, emotional, or behavioral health needs; the project will pay particular attention to military families, geographically-dispersed families, and families who are highly mobile or lack providers near their homes. This month's alumni update is about Sergiy Sydoriv, an education professor in Ukraine and former Americans with Disabilities Act fellow who still teaches inclusive education, even though his country has become a war zone.

    FYI is a monthly e-communication from the Institute on Community Integration. The January 2022 issue includes four feature stories, an ICI Facebook post, new publications, staff updates, and an alumni update. The first story features the new issue of Frontline Initiative, which shares stories by and for direct support professionals (DSPs) as they navigate longer hours, inadequate pay, grief stemming from the death of colleagues, and other fallout from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The second story features the role that past and present MNLEND fellows have played in bringing sensory-friendly vaccine clinics to children and families in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The next story features the scholars from Europe, Australia, and central Asia who are visiting ICI to further the inclusion of people with disabilities around the globe. The fourth story is about an ICI national report on the living arrangements of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This month's alumni update is about a former MNLEND fellow who recently opened her second clinic to serve children with autism or related conditions from underprivileged communities.

This month's update is about Agnes Cole, a recent MNLEND graduate who works at a service provider, runs her own non-profit organization, and who spent much of her fellowship working on the Residential Information System Project, a longitudinal study that tracks the living arrangements of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who receive services.
