The Commission on Equity Race & Ethnicity (CERE) works to create an equitable campus community for people of all racial, ethnic, and intersecting identities through education and institutional change. CERE works to promote inclusivity and equity on UMD's campus through advocacy, conducting small events, and through our annual Summit on Equity, Race, and Ethnicity.

Historical note: In November 1989 the UMD Diversity Task Force was organized at the request of Chancellor Lawrence Ianni. In Fall 1992 the name changed to the UMD Human Diversity Task Force. In 1993-1994 it became the UMD Commission on Human Diversity (also known as the Diversity Commission). In 2015-2016 the name changed to the Commission on Equity, Race and Ethnicity (CERE).
