Founded in 2004, the Food Protection and Defense Institute (FPDI) at the University of Minnesota protects the global food supply through research, education, and the delivery of innovative solutions. Originally known as the National Center for Food Protection and Defense (2004–2015), FPDI was a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Center of Excellence from its inception until 2017 and is now an Emeritus DHS Center of Excellence. FPDI partners with industry, government, NGOs, and academic stakeholders to help assure product integrity, supply chain resiliency, and brand protection throughout the food system.
