Native Americans into Medicine Program Materials

Persistent link for this collectionhttps://hdl.handle.net/11299/226458

This collection contains materials from the Native Americans into Medicine program, which is run through the Center of American Indian and Minority Health at the University of Minnesota DuIuth School of Medicine. The program began in 1972 under the direction of Robert Pozos and Wilmar Salo, both assistant professors at the UMD School of Medicine, and was funded (at least in the beginning) by federal grants. The goal was to help provide critically needed health care personnel for Native American reservations by recruiting Native American students to medical professions and supporting them in their educational journey. The program was initially held at UMD, the University of Minnesota Morris, and Bemidji State College, though now it is only at UMD.

Materials include UMD press releases (1973 and 1990), an article (1974?), program brochures (1977 and 1983?), a program report (1978), an issue of NAM News (spring 1985), and a clipping from the Statesman student newspaper (1990).
