Item Driven to Discover: An Innovative Platform for University Research and Public Engagement at the Minnesota State Fair(Society of Clinical Research Associates, 2022-08) Demerath, Ellen; Spector, Logan; Hotop, AnnieThe Driven to Discover research facility at the Minnesota State Fair leverages the annual gathering of approximately two million fairgoers to engage Minnesota residents in science and to provide a venue for rapid participant recruitment and data collection for researchers. This article describes the development and success of this innovative research infrastructure partnership between the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State Fair. Mr. Geschwind has experience in overseeing generation and transmission assets, power marketing and operation functions, and in dealing with matters like the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), North-American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), and Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). Rick Hettwer is the Manager of Power Delivery at Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA).Item Interview with David Boyd(2015-07-24) Boyd, David; Monti, MartaDavid Boyd is the Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs at MISO, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator. He serves as MISOs primary liaison with the governors and state regulatory and legislative policymakers on footprint wide matters in the MISO region. Prior to this position, Mr. Wachtler was the Vice President of Barr Engineering, which provides engineering and environmental consulting services to clients across the Midwest and Americas. He was the project manager working on Environmental Impact Statements for the Brookings to Hampton, and Hampton to La Crosse CapX2020 lines. Louise Segroves is a Natural Resources Scientist at Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, and worked as an Environmental Scientist with Barr Engineering during the CapX2020 initiative. With her with at Barr Engineering, Ms. Segroves assisted with environmental review, line corridor review, permitting, and compliance for the Brookings to Hampton, and Hampton to La Crosse CapX2020 lines.Item Interview with Mark Nisbet(2015-06-19) Nisbet, Mark; Monti, MartaMark Nisbet is the North Dakota Principle Manager with Xcel Energy. In his role, Mr. Nisbet is involved with strategy, government and community relations. She is president of the Xcel Energy Transco, several transmission-only subsidiary companies engaged in competitive transmission growth opportunities. Climate change continues to impact the health, well-being, and resilience of Ramsey County residents, with greater severity in racially/ethnically diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged communities. A newly published County strategic priority states that Ramsey County is committed to leading in the mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, elevating environmental justice, and fighting against the disparate impacts of climate change in Black, American Indian, and other underrepresented communities across the county. Ramsey County project lead Abi Phillips worked with five teams of students in Dr. Fernando Burga's PA 5145: Civic Engagement in Public Affairs course in spring of 2023 to identify target communities for engagement, potential engagement strategies, and evaluation metrics, and offer recommendations and next step for Ramsey County public engagement around issues related to climate change and resilience.
