Abstract
Hop pedigrees are interconnected and complicated but can be helpful for understanding existing varieties or for creating new varieties. Pedigrees for over 40 varieties of hops developed by English, American, German, and Japanese breeding programs are illustrated. Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, Fuggle, Northern Brewer, and Brewer's Gold varieties, as well as the USDA male 19058M, are progenitors of most modern hop varieties. More recently, private breeding programs in the UK, Germany, USA, Australia, and New Zealand have developed popular varieties, but their lineages are often proprietary information and are not included here.
