Between Dec 19, 2024 and Jan 2, 2025, datasets can be submitted to DRUM but will not be processed until after the break. Staff will not be available to answer email during this period, and will not be able to provide DOIs until after Jan 2. If you are in need of a DOI during this period, consider Dryad or OpenICPSR. Submission responses to the UDC may also be delayed during this time.

Abstract

These data document species richness and abundance of the local breeding bird community in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. I used a conventional point count methodology (Bibby et al. 2000) to sample a total of 16 locations (or transect areas) all with a 50-meter radius. All observation periods took place between 1 June and 5 July 2016. The data can be used to derive species abundance indices and bird density. Furthermore, the data contain elements that permit more sophisticated statistical modeling such as time-depletion (removal) or distance sampling techniques.

Description

The primary spreadsheet (.csv files) contains records of bird detections. The second spreadsheet summarizes sampling efforts. Two zipped shapefiles contain spatial data to describe the 16 point locations and their corresponding transect areas. A PDF file describes the field site and field methodology used for data collection. Complete details are available in the readme text file, including a list and description of all data elements.
