In this Issue Features 4 Veterinary Medical Center: Comprehensive, Cutting-Edge, Compassionate Care The  University  of  Minnesota  Veterinary  Medical  Center  has  served  the community  for  over  a  century.  Its  world-­class  reputation  continues  to  spread. 10 Minnesota Urolith Center: Waging War on Urolithiasis for 30 Years   Urinary  stones  come  in  a  variety  of  shapes  and  sizes,  and  the  Minnesota  Urolith Center  analyzes  about  70,000  stones  per  year.   11 Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory: First Line of Defense for Animal and Human Health   The  Minnesota  Veterinary  Diagnostic  Laboratory  conducts  some  1.4  million tests  per  year  for  veterinarians,  but  its  duties  extend  beyond  protecting  animals. 17 Galapagos Partnership Enlists Expertise of The Raptor Center The  Raptor  Center  has  extended  its  reach  to  the  Galapagos  Islands  and  the endemic  Galapagos  hawk.   18 The Global Reach of Veterinary Continuing Education The  College’s  veterinary  continuing  education  program  reaches  practitioners  and scientists  from  around  the  world. 19 Veterinary Medical Library: Technology Brings Service to More People More Quickly A  vital  part  of  the  College  since 1948,  the  library  offers  services  to  Minnesota   veterinarians  and  the  public,  as  well  as  faculty,  staff,  students. 22 Research Funding Tops $7 Million 27 Meet René Carlson, President of the American Veterinary Medical Association The  CVM  alumna  just  took  over  the  reins  of  the  81,500-­member  AVMA. 29 Giving Back: A Conversation with Roy Martin, President Alumni & Friends Develpment. 29 Giving Back: A Conversation with Roy Martin, President, Alumni and Friends Society  It’s  important  for  alumni  to  stay  connected,  both  for  their  alma  mater  and themselves,  says  this  proud  member  of  the  class  of  1989.
