Abstract

In my 3,000-word review essay "An Open Letter to the Canadian Jesuit Cardinal Michael F. Czerny -- About the American Jesuit Cultural Historian Walter J. Ong's Thought," I address the Czechoslovakian-born Canadian Jesuit Cardinal Michael F. Czerny (born in 1946; Ph.D., University of Chicago, 1978), who was appointed by Pope Francis to serve as the Prefect of the Vatican's Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development. I highlight the life and work of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and media ecology theorist Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955).
