Abstract

This dataset contains chemical and elemental analyses of a vent fluid time series collected from 'Sanya' vent, Main Endeavour Field (northeast Pacific Ocean, 47° 57’ N, 129° 06’ W, ~2200 m water depth) using the U. Minn. serial vent fluid sampler, deployed at the MEF South science node of Ocean Networks Canada's NEPTUNE cabled observatory. The time series comprises nine samples of seafloor vent fluids collected from 2019-10-08 to 2020-05-26. Sampling methods are described in: Seyfried Jr, W. E., Tan, C., Wang, X., Wu, S., Evans, G. N., Coogan, L. A., Mihaly, S. F., & Lilley, M. D. (2022). Description

Major chemical parameters and trace elemental analyses of nine seafloor vent fluid samples obtained from 'Sanya' vent at Main Endeavour Field, northeast Pacific Ocean. Sample were obtained between October 2019 and May 2020 using a serial vent fluid sampler developed at University of Minnesota deployed using the NEPTUNE cabled array of Ocean Networks Canada. Samples were analyzed at University of Minnesota in 2020-2022 using pH electrode, iodometric titration, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Elemental analyses include analyses of reverse aqua regia digestions of sampler particulate fractions, which are mathematically added to analyses for acidified dissolved fractions.
