Abstract

Patients who do not speak English well (in an English-speaking country) receive better health care when medical interpreters are present. It is better to use professional interpreters (paid for and provided by the hospital) than family or friends because professional interpreters cause fewer errors, greater usage of healthcare resources, and more patient satisfaction. This flyer explains the importance of using a professional interpreter and lists resources available at some hospitals.
