Abstract

This article emphasizes the droop control phenomena of multiple voltage source inverters (VSIs) followed during islanded mode of operation of AC microgrid. At first, the droop control technique followed in conventional power system network with multiple synchronous machines interconnected to each other are discussed briefly. Secondly, the adaptation of the same phenomena in case of multiple VSIs in islanded microgrid is discussed in detail. The potential challenges of the droop control in microgrids are highlighted and existing modifications proposed in literature to mitigate those issues are discussed. At the end, this article concludes by pinpointing the existing issues that persist in droop control techniques for VSIs in islanded AC microgrid.
