Abstract

Veterinary medical facilities have been situated on the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul Campus for at least 110 years. Early documentation, a photo dated 1891, shows a two story wood framed “Veterinary Hospital” located on the present site of the current College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). In 1901, a brick “Veterinary Building” was constructed replacing the wood framed hospital. This 1901 structure, now titled “Veterinary Anatomy”, still stands - a testament to Veterinary Medicine’s long-standing association with the University’s St. Paul Campus. From this modest beginning, CVM facilities have grown to nearly 600,000 gross square feet. As the college’s programs continue to expand, the need for additional facilities continues to grow. In fact, the Minnesota Facilities Model (MFM) reveals that during the next 5 years, the College will require an additional 40,500 square feet of assignable space to accommodate planned programmatic growth.
