Abstract
These experiments were conducted in St. Anthony Fall Laboratory (SAFL) Delta Basin. This is a fixed based basin (5 m wide x 5 m long x 0.5 m deep) that is fed sediment and water from an input source to create model deltas. Sea-level adjustment via relative sea-level rise and tidal cycles is available in this facility and was in fact used for these experiments. This facility is able to collect data via an overhead DSLR camera (which made the time-lapse videos themselves) and a digital line scan camera capable of making digital elevation models with sub-millimeter accuracy.
Description
Delta experiments ran in Delta Basin-2 (DB2) with fluvial and tidal forcing. All deltas experienced 0.5 mm/hr of relative sea-level rise and water and sediment discharge rates of 5.0e-5 m^3/s and 5.0e-7 m^3/s respectively.
DB2-1601: 10 mm amplitude tides with a 2 min period.
DB2-1701: 3.5 mm amplitude tides with a 2 min period.
DB2-1604: No tides.
The videos were made by stitching together thousands of pictures taken from a fixed camera above the basin. The camera is oriented so that each pixel is roughly 1mm by 1mm.
