Historical note: In 1897 the University of Minnesota began offering courses in cooking and sewing. In 1900 a program offering college-level work allowed students to work toward a bachelor's degree in home economics. By 1912, there were 139 students registered in collegiate home economics and 43 baccalaureate degrees had been awarded. In 1990, the name was changed to the College of Human Ecology. With the restructuring of the university in 2006, the College of Human Ecology disbanded and its four academic departments moved into new collegiate homes.

The digital texts available here are complemented by the historical archives of the College of Home Economics and its predecessors, available for research in the University of Minnesota Archives, 218 Elmer L. Andersen Library.
