Department of Electrical Engineering

The Department of Electrical Engineering is focused on providing challenging hands-on laboratory and design components along with a thorough foundation in theory. We also strive to give our students the skills to be life-long contributors to their profession and society.

Historical note: This department was originally the Department of Computer Engineering, through the 1994-95 academic year. By the 1995-96 academic year, it was the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and then by the 2012-13 academic year it had become the Department of Electrical Engineering.

See the earliest issues of The Interface (October 1984 - Spring 1986) for information about early engineering programs in general at UMD, including Computer Engineering. By Fall 1986, The Interface became a College of Science and Engineering-wide newsletter, though later issues do contain some information about engineering programs.
