Microelectronic and Information Sciences Center

Started in 1980 with a grant from Control Data Corporation, the Microelectronic and Information Sciences (MEIS) Center was organized around two purposes, “first, to sponsor and conduct research on cutting edge problems in the microelectronic and information sciences, and second, to strengthen the educational offerings of the University of Minnesota and the other MEIS affiliated universities.” The MEIS Center was a cooperative including academic and industrial organizations.
The MEIS Center’s name was changed in January 1991 “to place more emphasis on the new focus of our organization,” which was described as providing a state-of-the-art facility for microelectronics and associated technologies for “supporting faculty research and educational activities at the University…” The Center’s name became the Microelectronics Laboratory for Research and Education.
This collection includes technical reports, program proposals and overviews, newsletters, and other publications produced by the Microelectronic and Information Sciences Center between 1979 and 1990.
