Data Curation Network
Persistent link for this community
Research and outputs from the Data Curation Network, a community of professional data curators, data management experts, data repository administrators, disciplinary scientists and scholars that represent academic institutions and non-profit data repositories who steward research data for future use. We strive to build a trusted community-led network of curators advancing open research by making data more ethical, reusable, and understandable.

Item Data Curation Network End User Survey 2021(2021-09-28) Wright, Sarah; Johnston, Lisa; Marsolek, Wanda; Luong, Hoa; Braxton, Susan; Lafferty-Hess, Sophia; Herndon, Joel; Carlson, Jake; jw256@cornell.edu; Wright, Sarah; Data Curation NetworkThis dataset includes the processed dataset from the 2021 End User Survey performed by the Data Curation Network.Item Data for "Knowledge Infrastructures Are Growing Up: The Case for Institutional (Data) Repositories 10 Years After the Holdren Memo"(2023-10-09) Narlock, Mikala R.; Priesman Marquez, Rachel; Herrmann, Heather; Ibrahim, Maisarah; mnarlock@umn.edu; Narlock, MikalaRecognizing that institutional repositories (IRs and IDRs) have been, and will continue to be, key infrastructure researchers utilize to share their data (either due to funder, publisher, or institutional requirements, or to promote open science) the authors, as individual members of the Data Curation Network (DCN), recognized the imperative to assess the current IR and IDR landscape. To that end, we conducted a review of institutional and data repositories based at Association of Research Libraries (ARL) institutions to better understand: Are either institutional repositories or institutional data repositories receiving datasets? If so, has this increased over time and, if so, by how much?Item Data supporting “Data Sharing Readiness in Academic Institutions” Version 1.0(2020-01-15) Johnston, Lisa R; Coburn, Liza; ljohnsto@umn.edu; Johnston, Lisa R; University LibrariesTo address how has the academic landscape for data repository and curation services changed we used website content analysis to better understand data repository services in academic research libraries, building on the 2017 ARL Spec Kit for Data Curation (Hudson-Vitale et al., 2017a). Of the 124 ARL institutions we chose to focus on academic institutions, and therefore excluded 10 civic libraries. For each of the remaining 114 ARL institutions we asked four research questions: Do they support data sharing via data repository services? How many datasets did they hold as of January 2020? What digital repository software platform was in use? How do our results compare with the 2017 ARL SPEC Kit data.Item Data supporting: "Testing Our Assumptions: Preliminary Results from the Data Curation Network"(2020-06-04) Coburn, Elizabeth; Johnston, Lisa R; ecoburn@umn.edu; Coburn, Elizabeth; Data Curation Network; University LibrariesData were collected during the first year of the Data Curation Network's pilot shared data curation service. These data and analysis of these data are the basis of the findings presented in the associated manuscript.Item Value of Curation Survey, January 2021(2021-08-30) Johnston, Lisa; Curty, Renata; Lafferty-Hess, Sophia; Hadley, Hannah; Petters, Jonathan; Luong, Hoa; Braxton, Susan; Carlson, Jake; Kozlowski, Wendy A; rcurty@ucsb.edu; Curty, Renata; Data Curation NetworkThis dataset includes the raw and augmented survey results from the January 2021 Value of Curation survey run by the Data Curation Network. Distributed to US data repository staff and directors via email listservs the survey received a total of 120 responses. 22 responses were for non-US repositories and three did not provide a repository of reference. A majority of the participants self-identified as staff members with 52 staff and 34 repository directors. The remaining were 5 unaffiliated users, and 4 unaffiliated depositors. A third of the responses (68) were associated with certified CoreTrustSeal repositories, and 27 responses were related to members of the Data Curation Network (DCN).
