Both sales and participation are projected to continue significantly increasing through 2014. To date, no Minnesota specific information on ATV consumers and their economic impact exist. The purpose of the profile was to better understand attendee characteristics, to assist marketing decisions, to enhance the event itself, and to maximize benefits to the community. As such, several attendee characteristics were of interest, including demographics, information sources attendees used to learn of the Fair, most enjoyable attributes of the Fair, main reason to attend the Fair, expenditures related to the Fair, and modes of transportation. In terms of perceptions regarding tourism, more than nine out of 10 Minnesota residents reported tourism as important to the state’s economy during 2005-2009. Between 2011 and 2014, leisure travel spending habits fluctuated. They dipped in 2011 but increased and have remained stable since then. Following a similar pattern, intended spending on leisure travel in the next 12 months dipped in 2012, but has increased since that time.Item Travelers in Southern Minnesota: Profile of Visitors to Four Communities(University of Minnesota Tourism Center, 2006) Gartner, William C.; Salk, Raintry J.Statewide data speaks to the magnitude of tourism in Minnesota. However, critical to successful regional tourism planning & development in local communities is region specific data. The University & Explore Minnesota tourism began partnering in 2000 to identify community & region travel data. This project continues that vein and focuses on 4 communities in Southern Minnesota: Blue Earth, Fairmont, Jackson, & Worthington.
