Item A Longitudinal analysis of popularity, group membership and dress.(American Home Economics Association, 1970-04) Kelley, K.A.; Eicher, J.B.Although sociometric studies are plentiful, the sociometric research reported in this paper is unusual in that one high school class was studied for four consecutive years. This report includes the four-year findings of a longitudinal study of the influence of clothing on social acceptance. Two articles previously published in the Journal and referenced to in this paper reported findings in the ninth- and twelfth-grades separately.Item Senior girls' appearance and social acceptance(American Home Economics Association, 1968) Hendricks, S.H.; Kelley, E.A.; Eicher, J.B.This examination of senior-year data from a longitudinal study of the same class of high school girls from the ninth through the twelfth grades confirms that clothing plays an important role in the teenager's ability to establish adequate self-identity. However, little agreement was shown in the underlying values and opinions expressed concerning "why" clothing is influential in social acceptance.
