Empire Imaginary: International Understanding and Progressive Education in the United States

Abstract

"Empire Imaginary" explores the history of the movement of "education for international understanding" in mid-twentieth century United States. The dissertation argues that "education for international understanding" reflected liberal ideas about race, gender, and capital, and helped shape the broader political context of Americans' views of international affairs during the twentieth century.
