Abstract
In my 2,700-word review essay, I connect certain points that Paula Fredriksen makes in her 2017 book Paul: The Pagans' Apostle (Yale University Press) with relevant points in the thought of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and cultural historian Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955) -- and with relevant points in the thought of the classicist Eric A. Havelock's book Preface to Plato (Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 1963).
