Abstract

Description

This book is a major report on Minnesota's peat resources in the early 1980s and how they might be developed. It includes a discussion of direct peat mining, using peatlands as farmland for growing energy crops, and preserving peatlands. It analyzes the economies of these various approaches; considers the impact development would have on local economies, communities, and the environment; explains the legal and regulatory options available to Minnesota; and presents the recommendations of the peat panel that prepared the report.
