Abstract

Gas dynamics simulation instructional modules are created to teach students about the internal workings of hydrodynamics codes. Many interpolation schemes and the exact solution of the Riemann problem are used as building blocks of hydrodynamics codes. Once the full PPM and PPB hydrodynamics codes are complete, they are tested on the sound wave steepening problem and the expected behavior is achieved. However, shocks in the PPM and PPB codes are not properly modeled because the codes were built for stellar evolution. Further research would correct this and test the code on a larger variety of test problems.
