Abstract

This project was completed as part of a year-long partnership between Carver County and the University of Minnesota’s Resilient Communities Project (http://www.rcp.umn.edu). Victoria is a growing city in Carver County with a revitalized downtown and many natural resources and amenities. As the city grows and attracts new residents and more visitors, community development staff have recognized a need for wayfinding strategies to highlight these amenities and encourage tourism, local purchasing, and additional investment. The goal of the project was to develop a trail wayfinding program for the City of Victoria to promote consistent user-experiences for visitors, especially those who access the city via the Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail. In collaboration with project lead Ann Mahnke from the City of Victoria, a team of students in ARCH 3250: Design Workshop: Community Design Practice, developed designs for wayfinding signs and directory kiosks to use on trails and other locations throughout the city. A final report from the project is available.
