Abstract
In my 2,900-word review essay "Thomas Cahill's Book about Ancient Greek Culture, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I highlight and discuss certain points from Cahill's book Sailing the Wine-Dark Sea: Why the Greeks Matter (New York and London: Talese/ Doubleday, 2003). Toward the end of my review essay, I turn to Cahill's remarks in his "Notes and Sources" (pages 275-284 at 278) about Walter J. Ong's book Orality and Literacy: The Technologizing of the Word (London and New York: Methuen, 1982). Cahill sounds like he has some kind of beef with Ong. However, in my estimate, throughout Cahill's book he does not say anything that contradicts anything Ong says in his 1982 book or elsewhere.
