Abstract
Pozzolans are used as a partial replacement to portland cement in concrete to lower the carbon footprint and improve durability. To measure the reactivity of a pozzolan, thermogravimetric analysis was used to test the calcium hydroxide (CH) content of mixtures over time. If the pozzolan is working correctly, the calcium hydroxide content will decrease over time, indicating a higher content of calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), and therefore higher compressive strength and a more impermeable mixture. 7-day testing was completed, indicating a CH decrease in all mixtures containing pozzolans. More data will be collected at 90 and 120 days.
