Abstract

This report describes the results of model studies of the grit chambers at the Minneapolis-St. Paul sewage treatment plant. The approach sewer conducting the sewage to the grit chambers is a double barrel section and is curved in plan. The sewer serves eight grit chambers by successive bifurcation of the original twin barrels as shown in the figure. Although the total flow is divided approximately equally among the eight grit chambers. The overload in these chambers is a oontributing cause to high cost of maintenance and lower efficiency. Similar problems arise when less than eight chambers are operating.
