Abstract

Jordan B. Peterson's chapter on rule 1 is an excellent exposition of evolutionary psychology. His other chapters are somewhat uneven in quality. But his first chapter can be related to Walter J. Ong's discussion of male agonistic (contesting) tendencies in his book Fighting for Life: Contest, Sexuality, and Consciousness (Cornelly University Press, 1981), the published version of Ong's 1979 Messenger Lectures at Cornell University.
