President Obama's health reform has stirred intense opposition from Republicans and conservatives that is an understandable response to a new stage of government activism. The fight over health care is about more than health policy; it is ground zero of the ongoing war between liberals and conservatives over the size and scope of the U.S. government. While Obamacare will continue to incite opposition, it is an historic step toward a peculiarly American version of social democracy.
