Abstract
This project was completed as part of a year-long partnership between the City of Rosemount and the University of Minnesota’s Resilient Communities Project (http://www.rcp.umn.edu). Placemaking is a people-centered approach to the planning, design, and management of public spaces, and is important for building strong communities. The goal of this project was to maximize the benefits of Rosemount’s public spaces such as community centers, churches, cafes, and coffee shops. In collaboration with city project lead Dan Schultz, Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Rosemount, a team of students in LS 5100: Revitalizing Environmental Reform: Re-Imagining the Arts for Public Parks researched case studies of similar suburban settings and offered suggestions for placemaking tailored to Rosemount’s current spaces. A final report from the project is available.
