Abstract

In my 3,800-word review essay "Emily Wilson's 2023 Translation of The Iliad, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I highlight the work of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and cultural historian and pioneering media ecology theorist Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955) in the first part of my review essay. In the second part, I discuss the classicist Emily Wilson's 2018 translation of The Odyssey and his 2023 translation of The Iliad -- both published by Norton.
