Abstract
This map was produced based on 420 outcrops which were mapped over a four day period under the supervision of Dr.
James D. Miller. Four students along with a TA and Dr. Miller mapped the southern shore of Lake Three of the Boundary
Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Lake County, Minnesota in order to establish a better understanding of the contact relationships
of the Anorthositic Series of the Duluth Complex and the Lake Three Troctolite which is a discrete unit of the Layered
Series of the Duluth Complex. Building on previous shoreline mapping (Miller, J.D., 1986), several traverses inland were
completed to determine the extent of the Lake Three Troctolite, establish the contacts with the Anorthositic Series and
describe the internal structure and lithology of the Lake Three Troctolite. Based on the four days of field work this 1: 10,000
scale map and cross section were produced for use in future research projects.
