Abstract
On February 12, 2020, Pope Francis issued his new apostolic exhortation about the Amazon region -- addressed not only to practicing Catholics but also to all persons of goodwill. In my 4,000-word review essay "Pope Francis' 2020 Apostolic Exhortation and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I highlight certain passages in the pope's exhortation and often suggest related reading by the American Jesuit polymath Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955) and selected other authors.
