Abstract

Water is a fundamental resource, essential not only for ecosystems and biodiversity but also for human development. In the last years, the importance of water has gained broader recognition in the research arena of environmental economics. This dissertation aims to underscore the value of water by examining both its role as a driver of change for socio-economic activities (Chapter 1) and the ways in which various human activities are reflected on water quality (Chapters 2 and 3).
