Abstract

In my 3,100-word review essay "Vittorio Montemaggi's Book Reading Dante's 'Commedia' as Theology, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I highlight the Italian-born Cambridge-University-educated Dante specialist Vittorio Montemaggi's 2016 book Reading Dante's "Commedia" as Theology: Divinity Realized in Human Encounter (Oxford University Press). In addition, at certain junctures, I discuss selected aspects of the mature work of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and pioneering media ecology theorist Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955).
