Description
This report sets out to accomplish five things: (1) provide information about the Clean Energy Resource Team (CERT) Project and Southeast/South Central CERT; (2) paint a broad picture of the people, resources, and infrastructure in the 15 counties in Southeast/South Central Minnesotaﾗthings such as land use, how many people there are, where they are living, how they are moving about, and the major economic activities they are engaged in; (3) describe briefly what energy is, how we use energy in different forms and amounts, where different sources of energy come from and future prospects for their availability, the health and environmental impacts resulting from using different types of energy, and external costs and subsidies masking the true costs of using different types of energy; (4) identify and assess the renewable energy resources in the region and the potential for saving energy and replacing conventional fuels with energy produced from those local renewable resources; and (5) identify barriers to implementing renewable energy projects in the region.
