Abstract

This study examines how music affects the process of video creation for youth. Middle school students were observed making videos with various media. They regard music primarily as something which structures their content, but it can also be the final product in itself, or a basic asset to fill a void in their project. The structuring effects of music often contradict the chaotic creation process youth employ, which system designers must account for when developing technology for them.
