Abstract

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the experiences of metallectuals in higher education—college students who belong to the heavy metal subculture. Utilizing intersectionality and social reproduction theories, the results suggest metallectuals encounter alienation and marginalization at the intersections of their social class, gender, race, and subcultural affiliation.
