Abstract
THE STUDY OF POPULATION trends is an important factor
in future planning. Whether the programs are economic or
social, and whether they are local, state-wide, or national, they
require a knowledge of the number of people in relation to a
given area. For instance, the effect of the rapid increase in the
populatiol’l on land values in the nineteenth century is well
known to most Americans. Fortunes were made from the un
earned increment in values simply because of the increase in
the number of people and, therefore, in the demand for land.
