Abstract

Description

The Center for the Study of Politics and Governance hosted a series of public talks by prominent government leaders as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering informed and substantive discussion on important matters of public policy. Connecting with Government will allow Minnesota's elected officials the opportunity to rise above the talking points and fractious back-and-forth of the legislative process to make substantive statements about issues of importance for Minnesotans. It also creates a forum for students and citizens to listen and raise questions with their elected officials. Jim Ramstad is a member of the United States House of Representatives, first elected to represent the Third District of Minnesota in 1990. Congressman Ramstad serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, Health Subcommittee, and Oversight Committee. Ramstad also co-chairs the Addiction Treatment and Recovery Caucus, as well as the Bipartisan Disabilities Caucus, Law Enforcement Caucus and Medical Technology Caucus. Prior to his election to Congress, Ramstad served three terms in the Minnesota Senate, where he was assistant minority leader. In addition to elected office, Congressman Ramstad served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a former criminal justice attorney and adjunct professor of government and Constitutional law. Ramstad holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and George Washington University.
