Abstract

Through a close textual analysis of characteristic but diverse forms of West African cultural production, including plays, novels, videos, and films, this dissertation examines ways that the contradictions of globalization are embedded in both the commodity of the automobile and in what has been called automobility, the ideal of the fully mobilized self that is coupled with the automobile.
