Abstract
Five different tryptanthrin compounds were synthesized in this experiment to investigate the effects of different substitutions on the solubility of tryptanthrin. All of the compounds had a bromine substitution at the 8 position on tryptanthrin, and different substitutions were made at the 2 and 3 positions. While we believe that the syntheses of these new compounds were successful, we were unable to fully characterize the product without NMR spectra. Because of this, we could not perform a formal test of solubility and form proper conclusions regarding the impact of the new substituents’ effects on the solubility of tryptanthrin.
