Abstract

NOM1 (Nucleolarprotein with MIF4G domain 1) is a MIF4G/MA3 protein identified at the chromosome 7q36 breakpoint involved in 7;12 translocations associated with certain acute childhood leukemias. Hypothesis: Since NOM1 homologs are essential in both Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Caenorhabditis elegans, and since NOM1 interacts with a number of proteins involved in ribosome biogenesis, we predict that NOM1 is essential in human cells and that NOM1 deficiency will lead to decreased cell growth.
