Description

Donald Trump started his term with a series of thunderbolts, including pulling the US out of the Paris climate agreement, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and the Iran nuclear deal. These moves damaged US leadership and the international order, but the system of laws, treaties, and partnerships that the US constructed with its allies after World War II has not collapsed. There remains a hopeful path after the Trump administration. This case is made by a surprising source - Jake Sullivan, an advisor to Secretary Hillary Clinton, who played a significant part in many of the policies that Trump has targeted. Minnesota native Jake Sullivan was deputy chief of staff to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as well as national security adviser to former Vice President Biden. Since leaving the Obama administration, he was the senior policy adviser for Secretary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and is currently a visiting lecturer at Yale Law School. Mr. Sullivan has a master’s degree from Oxford as well as undergraduate and law degrees from Yale.
