Abstract

Welcome to Public Health Moment from the University of Minnesota. <Nicole: “Eating the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables is important for reducing your future risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers, as well as other chronic diseases. In addition, substituting fruits and vegetables for other higher calorie foods can also be a good way to manage your weight. The recommended amount of fruits and vegetables really depends on your energy needs. For someone consuming about 2,000 calories a day, it is recommended that they eat two cups of fruit and two and a-half cups of vegetables every day.”> So, how do you get your children to eat more fruits and vegetables? Larson has advice.<Nicole: “Research really suggests that children are more likely to eat their fruits and vegetables when these foods are readily available at home and when the family shares meal time.”> For Public Health Moment, I’m Mark Engebretson.
