Abstract
This thesis studies topics in two areas of economics: international and labor macroeconomics. In particular, I analyze fluctuations over the business cycle of different economic outcomes such as sovereign debt, firm dynamics, and employment transitions. In the first chapter, I focus on emerging countries and their vulnerability to international shocks. The second chapter studies how firms of different ages are affected by downturns in a context where it is costly for them to find customers. Finally, the third chapter analyses the effects of interstate migration in the United States over the business cycle.
