Abstract

Strassmann begins the interview with a dicussion of the mainframe products of Xerox Data Systems (XDS), formerly Scientific Data Systems (SDS). From his perspective as Chief Computer Executive at Xerox, he describes the interaction betweeen XDS and Xerox's established copier business. Straussmann describes the growth of Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (Xerox PARC) and the development of the Alto and Star computers. Strassman recalls Xerox's decision to move away from computers and into integrated information technology. He concludes the interview with his comments on the changing economics of information technology for end users.
