Abstract
In my 5,300-word review essay "Massimo Borghesi's 2021 Book Catholic Discordance, and Walter J. Ong's Thought," I highlight the Italian philosophy professor Massimo Borghesi's 2021 book Catholic Discordance: Neoconservativism vs. the Field Hospital Church of Pope Francis, translated by Barry Hudock (Collegeville, MN: Liturgical Press Academic). In various places in my review essay, I weave in relevant points about the work of the American Jesuit Renaissance specialist and cultural historian Walter J. Ong (1912-2003; Ph.D. in English, Harvard University, 1955). In addition, I suggest how certain points in Pope Francis' thought might be aligned with points in Ong's thought.
