Abstract
Econase, a xylanase enzyme designed to assist with digestion of fiber in cattle diets, was experimentally supplemented in cow diets. The influence of this enzyme on cow behavior was examined in pre- and post-partum transition cows, to determine in part if the enzyme could influence milk production through behavioral changes. Behaviors examined were time spent ruminating, eating, and standing. No statistically significant difference was observed between the behavior of control cows and that of cows fed Econase.
